About

A fresh take on a classic style, New Chicago Brass (NCB) represents the new generation of professional brass performance in Chicago. Since its inception in 2012, NCB has blown away audiences in the Chicagoland area and beyond.

NCB began as an idea voiced during a workshop between the Civic Orchestra of Chicago and Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble. NCB’s founders were inspired to gather colleagues from current members and alumni of Civic for a reading session. That reading session quickly evolved into NCB, which was soon performing in various Chicagoland venues, from Symphony Center – home of the Chicago Symphony – to Revolution Brewery, as well as giving masterclasses and concerts at universities.

New Chicago Brass enjoys a varied repertoire, from traditional brass audience favorites like Giovanni Gabrieli and J.S. Bach to more contemporary composers such as Jan Koetsier, Anthony Plog, and David Sampson.

New Chicago Brass is a collective of freelance brass players based in Chicago. Members regularly perform with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and the Milwaukee Symphony, in addition to holding positions in regional orchestras around the Chicagoland area. A number of our members also teach at colleges and universities in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic regions and are regularly sought after as clinicians and adjudicators for various contests and festivals.
